Choosing a pole is like shopping for shoes...exciting, but way too many choices. The type of pole you use may change, depending on which stage you are in on this journey (beginner, intermediate, advanced). It is recommended that due diligence be taken before starting down this path, but here is a summary of what you need to know when deciding on a pole.
The 3 types of poles used in pole dance/fitness is portable, permanent, and freestanding. A portable pole is easy to transport and can be set up anywhere; provided there is a ceiling and solid floor surface. Permanent poles are commonly used in studio’s and are bolted to the ceiling and floor. At pole bias, we use freestanding poles from X-POLE, which can be used indoors, but also has the portability and stability needed to pole in the great outdoors.
There is a variety of materials and finishes available and each has advantages and disadvantages. The climate where you live will be a deciding factor of which pole is best. Due to the humidity and salt air in St Augustine, FL; pole bias opted for stainless steel and silicone poles. Stainless steel poles make it possible to pole outdoors without concerns of rusting. Using silicone poles require the skin to be covered to prevent friction burns. This finish is great for the woman who is modest, but still wants to experience a pole class.
Knowing how to decide your pole type is just as important as knowing your blood type. And, although there is a variety of poles to choose from, each serves the same purpose...ensuring that all women can take a pole journey with confidence.
